Abstract

The desire to have compact, high power sources with low environmental impact has focused attention on solar batteries. The actual field conditions expose a battery to different charging voltages which occurs due to improper design, equipment failure, low radiation or any other factor. This paper reports the performance of solar battery with different charging cutoff voltages in the terms of Amp-hour capacity, temperature, Wh capacity etc. In this study flooded lead acid battery of 12V nominal voltage and 20Ah of capacity was analyzed at different charging cutoff voltages by using Bitrode LCN battery tester. The experiment was performed with varying charging cutoff voltages and analyzed the other performance parameter with respect to different charging cut-off voltages. In this paper, results from the data analysis of this experiment are presented which could help in predicting the behavior of flooded lead-acid batteries under various operating conditions and can also provide an inside view of battery performance on different charging voltages to the charge controller manufacturers.

Abstract

Batteries play a crucial role in SPV applications. In an off-grid plant these serve as the heart of the whole system. Currently the solar market is being dominated by lead-acid batteries. The knowledge about the performance of a particular lead-acid technology can be of vital importance while designing an SPV system. This paper presents results from the performance analysis of flooded, Gel and AGM type of batteries under controlled conditions.

Abstract

The solar energy is one of the premising source of renewable energy. Among its different methods of tapping the solar energy, linear Fresnel reflectors and parabolic trough collectors are the most viable option. The One MW Solar-Biomass Hybrid Thermal Power Plant gives 30, 77, 212.7 kWh annual output against same DNI. This implies that 18, 10, 937.7 kWh energy generation is more than the normal solar thermal power plant. The Rankine efficiency is also high at 24.76% than that found in the normal case. Thus we conclude that One MW Solar-Biomass Hybrid Thermal Power Plant is more efficient giving high yield and power load factor (PLF).

Abstract

Keeping the issue of global warming in mind, renewable energy is vital as this has an attractive attribute that the fuel is free from emission. The market based mechanisms like Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is a process which assist the development of renewable energy. The objective of this paper is to describe the pros and cons of this mechanism which support the renewable energy projects and make them attractive in terms of investment.

Abstract

Wetlands are very unique ecosystem with high productivity and several ecosystem services. The high altitude wetlands play very unique and important role in the glaciated river basins. They serve as storage during rainy period and release water during throughout the dry season. The wetlands in the high altitudes are under stress due to changes in basic natural feeding systems which are glaciers and precipitation. The increase in temperature in recent decades has exaggerated the problem. The present paper reviews the importance and status of high altitude wetlands and assesses the issues to be addressed.
